SOH CAH TOA

SOH CAH TOA is a way of remembering the 3 primary right triangle trigonometric functions: sine, cosine and tangent. Recall that:



There are several good mnemonic devices for learning the ratios.

  • Some Old HippieCaught Another HippieTripping On Acid


  • Some Old Hag   Cracked All Her   Teeth On Apples


  • Some Old Hags Cackle And Howl  Till Old Age


Although there are six trigonometric ratios, three are simply the reciprocals of Sine, Cosine and Tangent. Therefore, if SOH CAH TOA is memorized, the other three ratios (Cosecant, Secant and Cotangent) can be derived by using the reciprocals.
