Hydration Facts
Hydration is the process of supplying enough liquid to the tissues of the body. Humans can gain the water they need to stay hydrated through their food and their beverages. The amount of water one requires to stay hydrated can vary depending on age, weight, gender, body mass, the climate, and activity. Because many of these factors can vary, such as temperature and activity, a person's hydration requirements can vary too. For physical and cognitive functions to be working properly, a person must be properly hydrated. Once a person doesn't have enough fluids in their system they can become dehydrated, which can be dangerous and even deadly in some cases. Too much water also poses serious health risks, but it is difficult to consume too much unintentionally.
