Suge Knight is an American record producer and music executive who became famous for co-founding Death Row Records. He was born Marion Hugh Knight Jr., on April 19th, 1965, in Compton, California, to Marion Knight Sr. and Maxine Dikeman. His nickname Suge is derived from his childhood nickname Sugar Bear. He was a track and football star at Lynwood High School and played football at El Camino College from 1983 to 1985. He played football at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas for the following two years. He was invited to the Los Angeles Rams training camp and played two NFL games for the Rams during the 1987 NFL Player's Strike.

Following his short NFL career Suge worked as a concert promoter and a bodyguard.
In 1989 Suge Knight started his own music publishing company. He made large profits after 'encouraging' Vanilla Ice to sign over royalties from the song Ice Ice Baby due to a conflict in authorship.
Suge Knight then formed a company to manage music artists and signed DJ Quik, The D.O.C. and some other members of the gangsta rap group N.W.A.
In 1985 Suge Knight insulted Puff Daddy on the Source Awards and their fued progressed.
Suge Knight posted bail for Tupac Shakur in 1995 when he agreed to sign with his label Death Row Records.
MC Hammer also signed with Death Row Records but left in 1996 following the murder of Tupac Shakur.
Tupac Shakur was shot in a drive-by on September 7th, 1996 and died six days afterwards. Biggie Smalls was killed in a similar shooting in Los Angeles on March 9th, 1997. Some believed it was a revenge killing and that Suge Knight was involved due to the rivalry between labels. Some also speculated that Suge Knight was involved in Tupac Shakur's murder and that Biggie's murder was an attempt to cover it up.
In 2006 Suge Knight filed for bankruptcy due to a civil lawsuit against him. Lydia Harris was claiming that she was cheated out of her 50% stake in Death Row Records.
Death Row Records' office items went up for auction as part of bankruptcy proceedings. The electric chair that was kept in the office sold for $2500.
Suge Knight as arrested for domestic violence in 1987. He cut off his girlfriend's ponytail after assaulting her in the street.
In 1987 Suge Knight was arrested for auto theft in Las Vegas, and for attempted murder and carrying a concealed weapon.
In 1997 Suge Knight broke probation and was sentenced to nine years. He was released in 2001.
In 2008 Suge Knight was arrested on Drug and assault charges but was cleared later that year,
In 2015 Suge Knight was involved in a hit and run.
Suge Knight is set to stand trial in January 2018 for murder.
Suge Knight has suffered various health problems including blood clots, blindness, and a suspected brain tumor. Some of his health issues have caused him to be unable to attend court hearings.
