Nora Roberts is a bestselling American romance novelist. She was born Eleanor Marie Robertson on October 10th, 1950 in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was the youngest of five children, and her family was fond of reading, instilling in her a love of books from an early age. She didn't take to writing however until she was almost 30. Nora married in 1968, right after high school graduation, and had two sons. In 1979 while being snowed in from a blizzard, she wrote her first novel. She continued to write manuscripts and in 1981 she had her first sale to the romance publisher Silhouette. The book was Irish Thoroughbred.

Nora and her first husband divorced in 1983. In 1985 she met her second husband after hiring him to build her bookshelves.
Between 1982 and 1984 Nora Roberts wrote 23 novels. It wasn't until 1985, when her romance novel Playing the Odds became an instant hit with readers that she became well-known.
The novels that Nora Roberts wrote for Silhouette were published under a variety of imprints including Silhouette Sensation, Special Edition, Intrigue, MIRA, and Desire.
Between 1991 and 2001 Nora Roberts wrote 68 novels. All 68 made it to the New York Times' bestsellers list.
Nora Roberts began writing for Bantam and then five years afterwards she began writing for Putnam.
