Phrase: A group of words that may contain nouns, but it does not have a subject/verb form.
- Eating cereal for breakfast
- Before the big storm
- Because of his stellar academic record
Clause: A group of words that has a subject performing the verb.
- Since he won the election
- Maria likes ice cream.
- Once Allen arrived
Independent Clause: A clause that could be a complete sentence if punctuated correctly.
- Phillip wrote a letter.
- The lions roared.
- My mother made soup.i
