Mitosis ( a type of division of the nucleus) and cytokinesis are the methods by a eukaryotic cell divides to produce two identical daughter cells. In single celled eukaryotes as well as some multicellular organisms, mitosis can be for asexual reproduction. This is most commonly seen in plants, for example the so-called "spider" or "airplane" plant that many people have in their homes. But mitosis is mainly the means by which multicellular organisms grow and replace damaged or worn out cells.
