The collapse of the Soviet Union brought about an unprecedented time in the years following the world wars. Previously the Russian influence within the global context had been great, and was no almost non-existent. Many feared for what type of future Europe would see as a result of this political turmoil. This collapse also meant an end the Cold War, which had also been almost continuous since the end of World War II. While the end of the iron curtain and Soviet oppression was certainly a good thing many were unsure what these things would be replaced with and as a result were unsure of the future of Europe and by default the world.
