Word Problems: Writing Word Problems Quiz
Quiz Overview
Description
Linear equations can be written in words. Word problems require reading and analyzing of the equation in order to correctly set it up and solve it. The methods to solve any linear equation still apply.
Example: Nine less than a number is 39.
Set up the problem using "X" as your variable. Determine what operation(s) is being performed. Look for key words. "Greater" and "increased by" means to add, while "less" and "decreased by" means to subtract.
So: x - 9 = 39
Another key word is "times." This means to multiply.
For each problem, determine which choice best represents the correct setup of the word problem. Select the best answer from the choices. You will need a pencil to complete this quiz.
