There is no time specific "good afternoon" salutation, therefore any of the non time-dependent greetings are perfectly acceptable for the middle of the day. For example, salaam 3alaykum and its response, wa 3alaykum salaam are universal greetings in Arabic. marhaban, which is an informal and simple "Hello," would also work in informal situations.
