Denzel Washington is an Academy Award winning American actor, producer, and director. He was born Denzel Hayes Washington Jr., on December 28th, 1954, in Mount Vernon, New York, to Denzel Washington Sr. and Lennis (nee Lowe). His parents divorced when he was 14 and he attended a private school in New Windsor, New York. He earned a B.A. in drama in 1977 from Fordham University and went on to study acting at the Lincoln Center and later graduate school at San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater. His big break came when he was cast in the TV drama St. Elsewhere.
