Ginger has thick, knotty underground stem (rhizome) which is juicy and fleshy in young plants and dry and fibrous in old plants. Ginger has decorative morphology and it is often used for landscaping. Ginseng has smooth upright stem that can reach 1 foot in height. It has compound leaves made of 5 leaflets with finely serrated edges. It produces small, yellow flowers arranged in the form of terminal umbels. Just like ginger, ginseng has very large, spindle-shaped, fleshy root.
