Passive Voice

Active Voice-the sentence is written so that the subject is performing the action
Example: The boy read the book.
Passive Voice-the sentence is written so that the subject is acted upon, or receives the action
Example: The book was read by the boy.
Sometimes, the person or thing performing the action is in the predicate of a passive sentence. Sometimes it is missing from the sentence.
