Timeline Description: Sandro Botticelli was an Italian painter during the early Renaissance period. He was a part of the period that later became known as the "Golden Age." It wasn't until the 19th century that Botticelli received renewed recognition for his contributions during this time.

Sometime in 1445, Sandro Botticelli was born. The actual date of Sandro Botticelli's birth is unknown. He was given the name Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi at birth. He was born in Florence, Italy.
1459 Botticelli became an apprentice (Around 1459).

Around the year 1459, Botticelli became an apprentice. This time was considered the Italian Renaissance.
1462 Botticelli became an apprentice to Fra Filippo Lippi (Some years later, approximately 1462).

Around the year 1462, Botticelli became an apprentice to Fra Filippo Lippi, an Italian painter. Much of the early works of Botticelli were influenced and attributed to this apprenticeship period.
1470 Botticelli had his own workshop.

By the year 1470, Botticelli had his own workshop. His previous work had gained attention due to his likely travels to Hungary where he created a fresco in Esztergom, Hungary.
1475 Botticelli created Adoration of the Magi (1475-1476).

In 1475 or 1476, Botticelli created Adoration of the Magi. This painting is considered one of the pinnacles of Botticelli's efforts and success. He was commissioned to create seven different versions of this painting.

In 1481, Botticelli was summoned by Pope Sixtus IV to fresco the walls of the Sistine Chapel. He was summoned along with other Florentine artiss. Botticelli contributed three works=Temptations of Christ, Punishment of the Rebels, and Trial of Moses.
1485 Botticelli creates Primavera and The Birth of Venus (1482 and 1485).

After returning to Florence, in 1482, Botticelli created the painting Primavera and in 1495, he created The Birth of Venus, two of the most well-known paintings by Botticelli to this day.
M1480 Botticelli creates a fresco with other artists (Mid 1480's).

During the mid 1480's, Botticelli created a fresco with other artists. At this time, he also painted many frescos in churches throughout Florence, Italy. By 1491, Botticelli helped decide with others the façade for the Cathedral of Florence.
1491 Botticelli stopped painting for a time (Sometime after 1491).

Sometime after 1491, Botticelli began following the teachings of Savonarola, a preacher. It is speculated he burned some of his work during this time, because it was considered pagan in nature.
May 17, 1510 Botticelli died.

On May 17, 1510 Sandro Botticelli died. Botticelli had vowed to never marry and died a single man.
