Monkey King - ruler of the monkeys who is rejected from a party with the gods, so he improves himself and renames himself the Great Sage, later rebuffs Tze-Yo-Tzuh who buries him under a mountain of rock for five hundred years until Wong Lai-Tsao frees him, and he disguises himself as Chin-kee to keep an eye on Jin/Danny along with his son Wei-Chen

Jin Wang - a Chinese American boy who starts at a new school when he turns 8, becomes friends with Wei-Chen, later dates Amelia then magically turns into Danny before returning to his form when he meets the monkey king

Wei-Chen Sun - a new Taiwanese student who becomes Jin's best friend, dates Suzy Nakamura and is the son of the monkey king

Suzy Nakamura - a Japanese-American girl in Jin and Wei-Chen's class who dates Wei-Chen in middle school and punches Jin when he tries to kiss her
