Plastic Facts

Plastic Facts
Plastic was first invented in 1856 by Alexander Parkes, who called it Parkesine. In 1893 Auguste Trillat invented a type of plastic made from milk protein casein that was immersed in formaldehyde called galalith. Over the next several decades early plastics began to evolve through new creations to include Bakelite, polystyrene, PVC, resins, polyethylene, polypropylene, and polystyrene. PET was created in 1941, and it began to replace glass bottles in Europe. Since then plastic has become one of the most commonly used items in packaging and product manufacturing, and one of the biggest threats to the world's oceans and landfills due to pollution.
