Ron Howard is an American filmmaker and actor who first became famous when he played the role of Opie Taylor in the television sitcom series The Andy Griffith Show in 1960. He was born Ronald William Howard on March 1st, 1954, in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Jean Speegle Howard and Rance Howard. His mother was an actress and his father was an actor, writer, and director. In 1958 his family moved to Hollywood and rented a house only a block from Desilu Studios. Ron's first credited film role was in the 1959 movie The Journey. In 1960 he was cast in the Andy Griffith Show. In 1963 Ron was given an 8mm movie camera for his 9th birthday and his interest in directing grew from there.

When Ron was born his parents made the announcement on a playbill that read: the star appears in the nude, creating quite a sensation.
At 18 months Ron appeared in a western film alongside his father who was playing a bad guy.
As a child Ron Howard had an early morning newspaper route, which helped him maintain a somewhat normal childhood. He also played in Little League and the shooting schedules had to be arranged so that he never missed a game.
As a child Ron Howard's allowance was only 25 cents a week.
As a young child Ron Howard appeared in many TV shows including Johnny Ringo, Five Fingers, The Twilight Zone, Dennis the Menace, The Danny Thomas Show, Cheyenne, Pete and Gladys, Route 66, The New Breed, The Big Valley and many more.
Ron Howard married Cheryl Alley in 1975 and have had four children together. Two of his daughters are also actresses - Bryce Dallas Howard and Paige Howard. Paige has a twin sister Jocelyn Carlyle.
Ron Howard played the role of Richie Cunningham on the TV series Happy Days from 1974 to 1984. He also played Richie Cunningham on the TV show Laverne & Shirley, and on the show The Fonz and the Happy Days Gang.
Ron Howard began directing films in the 1970s. In 1978 he directed the TV movie Cotton Candy.
In 1977 Ron Howard directed his first film titled Grand Theft Auto. He was given the opportunity to direct a film by Roger Corman if he starred in the 1976 film Eat My Dust.
After the show The Andy Griffith Show ended Ron Howard had a difficult time landing acting roles for a few years.
Ron Howard has cast his wife in all of his films in some way or another.
Ron Howard's first box office hit was Night Shift in 1981. He went on to direct Splash, Cocoon, Parenthood, Backdraft, Far and Away, The Paper, Apollo 13, Ransom, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Beautiful Mind, The Missing, The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, Solo: A Star Wars Movie, and many more.
Henry Winkler, who played The Fonz on Happy Days, is the godfather to Ron's daughter Bryce Dallas Howard, who has appeared in many movies including Jurassic World.
