Misplaced Modifiers
Misplaced Modifier-a phrase or clause that is misplaced in a sentence so that it seems to refer to something that it does not modify
Example: The girl was petting the dog with a red shirt.
"With a red shirt" modifies "girl," not "dog."
Correction: The girl with the red shirt was petting the dog.
Dangling Modifier-a phrase or clause that does not modify any word in the sentence-it refers to something not specifically named in the sentence.
Example: By practicing every day, the piano is easy to learn.
"By practicing every day" is dangling-who is practicing every day?
Correction: By practicing every day, you can easily learn to play the piano.
